Who's who behind the Foundation

Tiaan Visser

Tiaan is the grandson of Professor Barnard. He is the son of Deirdre Barnard and shares the same passion in providing help and care to those who are less fortunate. After completing his bachelors at the University of Stellenbosch he moved to London where he also completed his MBA.  He returned to South Africa in December 2013 and started work on re-launching his grandfathers foundation.

Tiaan works in private healthcare, although not in a clinical role, and has built up many good contacts within the world of healthcare.

Dr Andre Brooks

Dr Brooks obtained his MB.ChB from the University of Stellenbosch in 1993. His internship was done in 1994 at Livingstone Hospital, Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape. During this time he was exposed to the Cardiothoracic surgical service and for the following two years took up a position as a medical officer in this department.

Under the guidance of very experienced and enthusiastic senior surgeons he built up a clinical experience in all aspects of the specialty. Two years later, 1997, Dr Brooks was accepted as a Registrar at the University Hospitals of Edinburgh. For his intermediate College exam he was awarded the Brebner Medal of Excellence.

Andre Wagner

Andre works for the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa where is in charge of Organisational Development. Andre is regarded as family and grew up with Deirdre in their family home. Andre worked in local government as Director of Disaster Management, before he became involved in Hospice work twenty years ago. In 2000, Andre became the convenor of the Hospice Palliative Care Association (HPCA) of South Africa’s organisational development subcommittee, and is now the HPCA Regional Manager for EC, WC and NC and Organisational Development.

Lynda Bleazard

Lynda entered the healthcare industry as a Neonatal ICU nurse in the early 1980s, having achieved honours in all her nursing qualifications. She has completed a BCur in Health Science Education and Community Health Science.  Lynda is the former CEO and Trustee of the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Foundation and has a Masters of Business Administration from Regenesys Business School in Johannesburg. Her thesis was “Donor Expectations – Is the Selection Criteria meeting them?” In 2013 Lynda was recruited by United Way Worldwide to start up their South African Charter and is currently working as a Master Neuro Coach and Neuro Linguistic Practitioner specializing in Leadership Coaching and Business Development.
